    Electricity, heat and cooling are now being produced by one existing and two new combined heat and power (CHP) plants as well as absorption chillers, thereby reducing energy costs... This alone saves the local hospital from purchasing around 800 megawatt hours of electrical energy, which the new plant is now producing itself

    The Deep Geothermal Energy initiative falls under this heading and also reflects SPIE's commitments for a more sustainable world... The energy from this water will be used to produce heat and electricity at the geothermal power plant. SPIE is contributing to the development of renewable energy.
